From Chest Pain to Recovery: My Journey at Medanta-The Medicity Hospital

Hello everyone, my name is Rakesh Kumar Patel, and I am from Madhya Pradesh. I want to share my journey of dealing with a health scare and how I found my way to recovery, thanks to the expertise of Dr. Arvind Kumar and his team at Medanta Gurugram.

The onset of Symptoms, Initial Consultations and Tests

I have been suffering from chest pain for the past 3 to 4 months. The pain was noticeable even during office hours. While climbing stairs I often felt exertion and weakness. My family and I consulted many doctors, and we visited Nagpur Spandan Hospital, suspecting a heart problem. However, all tests were normal, leaving us puzzled and worried.

Our search for answers led us to a doctor in Bhopal, who conducted a thorough screening of my entire body. The CT scan revealed that my left diaphragm had shifted upwards, requiring a surgical intervention called diaphragm plication. This news was alarming, and we became stressed, searching for a surgeon who could handle such cases. Some doctors in Bhopal suggested AIIMS Delhi for the surgery, but they mentioned it would be an open surgery. I was reluctant to undergo an open surgery and started researching for minimally invasive options.

Finding the Right Surgeon-Dr. Arvind Kumar

Our research led us to Dr. Arvind Kumar from Medanta-The Medicity Hospital, Gurugram, Haryana, through YouTube, who is known for performing such surgeries using VATS and robotic techniques. We found his contact details on YouTube and managed to get an online appointment very conveniently. The next day, we traveled to Medanta, Gurugram, Haryana.

Dr. Arvind reviewed all our reports and recommended a few additional tests. He explained that surgery was necessary and that 99% of cases could be managed using robotic surgery, with only a 1% chance of requiring open surgery due to complications.

Surgery and Hospital Experience

I was admitted a day prior surgery, and was operated the next day. The medical staff at Medanta was exceptional. They made me feel comfortable and at ease despite the seriousness of the surgery. Everything went smoothly, and I did not even realize when I was anesthetized. I woke up in the ICU, where I regained consciousness and met my family. I was fully conscious and able to recognize everyone, which was a huge relief.

The next day, I was shifted to the ward. A physiotherapist visited me three times a day for exercises, which played a crucial role in my recovery. The nursing staff was incredibly helpful, always available within minutes whenever I needed anything.

Dr. Sukhram visited me regularly, and his lively and joyful demeanor made me feel like I was talking to a friend rather than a doctor. Dr. Arvind also visited me twice, and I was grateful for his expertise and care.

Recovery and Follow-Up

Today, I came for my follow-up, and I am 98% recovered. I am fully active and energetic. The medical staff and facilities at Medanta are world-class, and the cleanliness is remarkable. I am immensely thankful to Dr. Arvind Kumar and his team for their efforts in reviving me from a tough time in my life. Their suggestions regarding physiotherapy have helped me regain my confidence and fitness.

Conclusion

To summarize my journey, from the day I entered Medanta, the entire process from admission to meeting the doctor and conducting tests has been smooth and systematic. There are help centers and staff everywhere to guide and assist with everything, including pathology, medical tests, radiology, and billing. The OPD staff is also very helpful, they handle everything, making the entire process stress-free.

I am grateful for the care and support I received at Medanta Gurugram and especially thankful to Dr. Arvind Kumar and his team for giving me a new lease on life.
