A Daughter’s Gratitude to Her Superhero Doctor

My name is Ridhima, and I am 9 years old. I love my mother more than anything because she fills our home with love, warmth, and happiness. But for many months, she was very unwell. She suffered from severe difficulty in swallowing—dysphagia—for almost four months and kept visiting different hospitals. She took many medicines, but nothing seemed to help. Every day, I wished she would get better, but her condition only made our family more worried and sad.

Our family doctor finally advised us to visit a specialist—Dr. Arvind Kumar and his team at Medanta–The Medicity Hospital. Before coming here, my father and I watched YouTube videos about how Dr. Arvind Sir and his team had treated patients with similar throat and esophageal conditions. Those videos gave us hope, so we came to Medanta with trust in our hearts.

Understanding My Mother’s Illness

After proper evaluation, the doctors informed us that my mother was suffering from cancer in the lower part of her food pipe (esophagus). She had already undergone five cycles of chemoradiotherapy, but she still needed advanced medical treatment. At Medanta, Dr. Arvind Kumar and his expert team performed a complex robot-assisted, minimally invasive surgery. They removed the diseased portion of her food pipe along with the nearby lymph nodes and created a new passage for food between her stomach and the upper part of her esophagus.

Even though I was too young to understand all the medical details, I understood one thing clearly—my mother was in the safest hands possible.

A New Beginning After Surgery

The surgery gave my mother a new life. Slowly, she began to speak clearly, eat comfortably, and most importantly—smile again. The sparkle in her eyes, which had disappeared for months, returned after her treatment. I cannot express how happy I felt when she sat up, talked to me, and took her first bites of food in a long time.

My mother has always been the best cook. She used to prepare delicious meals for me, but during her illness, she couldn’t enjoy food at all. Even when Papa brought her favorite dishes from restaurants, she wouldn’t take a bite. She would lovingly feed me but avoided eating herself. It made me very sad to see her like this.

But now, after her successful treatment, everything has changed. She cooks again, eats with us, and laughs with us. Our dining table, once silent and full of worry, is now filled with joy, conversations, and togetherness.

Thank You, My Superhero Doctor

Today, with a heart full of love, I want to say a big thank you to Dr. Arvind Sir. Thank you for giving my mother back her health, her strength, and her beautiful smile. Superheroes save the world, and in my world, you are the superhero who saved my mother.
